Visiting the prophet's Tomb (peace be upon him)

To vist the Prophet's tomb is, no doubt, one of the deeds which bring one closer to Allah. If one is fortunate enough to go for hajj or Umra, he has to go to vist Medina and in his way he should keep saying : "we are returning from our journey with repentance, worshipping, prostrating and praising our Lord" and asking Allah to send His peace, blessings and mercy upon His Prophet Mohamed. On the way, one should recall the hardship which the prophet (peace be upon him) endured during his life and his patience and perserverance until Allah gave him persission to migrate to Medina which became the centre of the new Islamic community. When one sees Medina and the green dome of the pdropet'smosque, he should say :

"Oh Allah, this is the sanctuary of Your prophet, protect me with it from Hell, security from torturing and bad Judgement."

After entering Medina and arranging for lodging, one should wear his best clothes, use perfume and head towards the mosque walking in humility and humbleness, entering the mosque with the right foot while saying :

"Oh Allah! send Your mercy, blessings and peace upon the prophet and his family and compantion. Oh Allah forgive my sins and open for me the doors of Your mercy. Oh Allah make me today the best of those who directed themselves to You, the best of those who came closer to You and the moust successful of those who suplicated You and asked Your Satisfaction."

One should then go forward until he reaches the prophet's Minbar, make it to his right and pray two rak'as. After praying, one should go to the closet (Maqsura), stand three feet away with his back facing the Qibla and say in a low voice keeping in mind that the prophet sees him and listens to his words :

"Peace mercy and peace be upon you, the prophet of mercy. I testify that there is no God but Allah and that you are His messenger. Allah has sent you to mankind as a precursor and foreunner. You have delivered the Message and fulfilled the trust and advised the Community and fought in the way of Allah until you died honourably. May Allah reward you the best of reward and send His blessings, peace and mercy upon you. Oh Allah, let our prophet be the closest prophet to you on the Day of Judgement and let us drink from his river a draught of water after which we would never feel thirst, and provide us with his intercession and make us among his companions on the Day of Judgement. Oh Allah don't make this visit our last visit to Your prophet's tomb and let us return to it times and times."

One should then take a step to the right to stand in front of the grave Abou B akr the Prophet's companion who was praised by the Prophet as being the best of all men after the Prophet and say:

"Peace be upon you the Prophet's Khalifa (successor). Peace be upon You the companion of the Prophet in the Cavern and onhis trips. Peace be upon you the keeper of all his secrets. May allah reward you the best of rewards he granted to a leader of his Prophet's community. You have followed his path, fought the people of Apostasy, propagated Islam and supported truth and justice throughout your life. May Allah send His peace, blessings and mercy upon you. Oh Allah! keep his love in our hearts and don't make our attempts to vist him fruitless."

One should make another step to right to stand in fornt of the grave of Umar Ibn al khattab, the second Caliph (leader of the Muslims) after the prophet, who was praised by the Propht who said : "If there were a prophet after me it would have been Umar Ibn al Khattab." One should stand in fornt of the grave and say :

"Peace be upon you the leader of Believers. Peace be upon you the breaker of idols. May Allah reward you the best of rewards and may He be pleased with the one who chose you as his successor. You have rendered Islam victorious, took care of the orphans and were for Muslims a beloved leader and guide. You have given advice to your subjects and you have been justand equitable. May Allah send His peace, mercy and blessings on You."

One should then stand between the graves of the two companions and say

"Peace be upon you, the Prophet's companions and ministers. You assisted him in supporting religion and took care of the wellfare of Muslims after him. May Allah reward you the best of rewards."

One should go back to the Prophet's grave and say :

"Oh Allah! you have said and your word are the truth : "If they had only when they were unjust to themselves came in to thee and asked God's forgiveness, and the Apostle had asked forgiveness for them, they would have found God indeed Oft-returning, most Merciful' (1) we have come obedient to Your orders, asking the Prophet's intercession. Oh Allah! forgive our sins and anything we may have done that transgressed our duty and turn in to us (in mercy) for those art the Oft-Returning …. Our Lord forgive us and our brothers who came before us in to the Faith and leave not in our breasts rancor against those who have believed. Our Lord! Thou art indeed full of kindnees, Most Merciful… Our Lord ! give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter and defend us from the toment of the Fire …. Glory by to your Lord the Lord of Honour and power, He is free from what they ascribe to Him, and peace be upon the Messengers. And all praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of the word's."
